Art must stir an emotion, and mine has made people cry, scream and laugh. That is a reflection of life and politics and I portray it in these pieces — a collection of the unflinching and overtly disturbing.

David Warren Preston has been drawing with charcoal on paper his entire life, but started working with color only eight years ago. He works primarily on heavy watercolor paper using pastels and oil pastels. His work is wide-ranging, including political commentary, landscapes, dreamscapes and impressionistic pieces. It is unified if anything by a dynamic use of color, an attention to detail, and a sense of humor. He is self-taught.

In 2007, David also began exploring the use of acrylic on canvas. This medium gives him increased flexibility to express a range of ideas.

"98% of life is effort." David
